A primary source provides first-hand accounts or information of an event or topic. In scientific research, a primary source is a research study where the authors performed their own experiment and/or collected original data.
Some examples of primary sources include:
- Original research findings
- Diaries and letters
- Photographs
- Personal accounts
- Field work
- Newspaper and magazine articles published at the time of the event
